Island Tours
Article Summary:

The Thailand Biennale is a government‑initiated contemporary art festival designed to decentralize art and attract visitors to regional destinations. Past editions were hosted in Krabi (2018), Korat (2021) and Chiang Rai (2023). By choosing Phuket, organisers aim to show that the island is more than just beaches—it’s also a cultural melting pot.
“Eternal [Kalpa]” invites artists to explore the diversity of temporal experience—from daily rhythms to cosmic cycles. Participating artists will create works that interact with Phuket’s landscapes, myths and communities. The curatorial team, led by Arin Rungjang and David Teh, emphasises collaboration with local ecologists, divers, musicians and craftspeople.
Unlike a traditional gallery exhibition, the Biennale uses historic, post‑industrial and natural sites around Phuket as open‑air pavilions. Expect installations at beaches, mangrove forests, old tin‑mining structures and community spaces. In the Bangkok Post’s preview of the event, the Tourism Authority noted that venues include 4Kor Art Land, Sala Youngwon, Gulf of Thailand Artists Pavilion and the Ctrl+R Collective at Nai Harn Beach. These varied locations allow visitors to explore art while discovering new corners of the island.
Beyond admiring artworks, the Biennale offers:
